Jacksonville Area Information

Jacksonville is the city "where Florida begins", a motto supported by it's status as the largest city in Florida and it's location at the north of the state. Lynyrd Skynyrd, a Jacksonville band named after a former teacher of the members, penned the rock anthem "Free Bird".

The port, lying on Florida's East coast, boasts two important accolades. It is the largest deepwater port in the South and the second-largest port on America's East coast. As such, much of the city's economy is driven by imports and transportation services, including, most notably, the large-scale importing of automobiles. There still exists a good deal of diversity in the economy, however, with jobs in the financial services, manufacturing, biomedical technology and other fields.
